After activating at mcafee.com/activate, your McAfee subscription activation is fully managed from the My Account dashboard at home.mcafee.com. From this single portal, you can check when your plan expires, switch auto-renewal on or off, upgrade to a higher-tier plan, and make sure every device in your household stays protected without interruption. Whether you purchased a retail card, redeemed an online McAfee activation code, or subscribed directly through the website, all subscription management happens in the same place.

View Subscription Status

Log into home.mcafee.com and open the Dashboard. Your current plan name, subscription expiry date, number of protected devices, and renewal status are all displayed prominently. You can also view a full breakdown of which features are included in your active plan — from Secure VPN and identity monitoring to Scam Detector and Personal Data Cleanup. If you notice your subscription is showing as expired but you recently activated at mcafee.com/activate, try signing out and back in to refresh your account status.

Enable Auto-Renewal

To make sure your McAfee protection never lapses, enable auto-renewal from within My Account:
  1. Log into home.mcafee.com.
  2. Navigate to My Account → Subscription.
  3. Click Enable Auto-Renewal and confirm your billing details.
With auto-renewal active, McAfee will automatically charge your payment method and extend your plan before the expiry date. You’ll receive an advance email notification before any charge is made, giving you time to review or cancel if needed.

Renew Your Subscription Manually

If you prefer to renew manually, you can do so at any time — even before your current plan expires:
  1. Log into My Account and go to Subscription.
  2. Click Renew next to your current plan.
  3. Complete the purchase using your preferred payment method.
When you renew, your existing McAfee installations on all devices remain active and fully protected without any reinstallation required. Renewal simply extends the expiry date on your account.

Cancel Auto-Renewal

If you would like to cancel auto-renewal so your subscription does not renew at the end of its term:
  1. Log into home.mcafee.com.
  2. Go to My Account → Subscription.
  3. Toggle off Auto-Renewal and confirm your choice.
Your plan will remain fully active and protected until the current expiry date. No refund or proration applies when turning off auto-renewal — you simply will not be charged again at the next renewal date.
If auto-renewal is disabled and your subscription expires without a manual renewal, McAfee protection will stop immediately across all your devices. Your antivirus, VPN, and identity monitoring will all go offline. To restore protection, re-activate at mcafee.com/activate using a new 25-digit product key, or re-enable auto-renewal before your expiry date.

Frequently Asked Questions

When your subscription expires, all McAfee protection features stop functioning — including real-time antivirus scanning, Secure VPN, Scam Detector, and identity monitoring alerts. The McAfee application will remain installed on your devices but will display an expired status and will not protect you from new threats. To restore coverage, log into My Account and renew, or visit mcafee.com/activate with a new product key.
To upgrade your plan, log into My Account at home.mcafee.com and navigate to My Account → Subscription → Upgrade Plan. McAfee will show you the available plans above your current tier:
  • McAfee Essential — 5 devices, $39.99/yr (first year)
  • McAfee+ Premium Individual — Unlimited devices, $49.99/yr (first year)
  • McAfee+ Advanced Individual — Unlimited devices, $89.99/yr (first year)
  • McAfee+ Ultimate — Unlimited devices, $199.99/yr (first year)
When you upgrade, you typically receive a prorated credit for the remaining time on your current plan. The upgraded features activate immediately after purchase, and no reinstallation is required on already-protected devices.
